Well! it's 3.48 am UK time, so exactly a year ago to the minute, a certain gor'r'r'rgeous ickle boy was just 13 minutes old and being whisked off to SCBU by the paediatric team at The Royal Surrey, leaving a thoroughly bemused but euphoric new father Richard looking on, mum Lou completely out of it and three older brothers and sisters then age 9, 12 and 14 at home with a note explaining where their mum and now-stepfather had gone, lmfao. We had no idea all this was kicking off just 5 minutes down the road until we had the best phone call we'd received at 7.02 AM precisely, which was Richard, telling us Lou'd had the baby, my cousin, mum's nephew and he was a little boy weighing in at just 4 and a half pounds. Aw'w'w, it was the best news ever. I put the phone down and couldn't get back to sleep again lmfao, so I just had to text all my closest friends at 7 in the morning and tell them the great news, never mind whether they were in the land of nod or whatever, but at least Lou persuaded Richard not to call anyone and get us all out of bed the second Robbie had been born. I knew all wasn't exactly well though, so I spent rather an anxious day at home doing this and that till mum got in from work at 6 and we went round my Grandparents for drinkies as usual, where Gran filled mum in on the new baby's progress. Next day, it was our first meeting in SCBU. Aw'w'w'w, the size of him! He just had one drip in his tiny arm, but it felt like 1000 tubes in that tiny body though he was still able to wave his free arm out of my reach as we took photos of him and he made all those cute little newborn creaky squeaky noises. He was also wearing a hat which was too big for him and he was wrapped in what felt like acres and acres of woolly hospital shawl. I almost didn't go back to Lou's room with mum and Richard, I didn't want to leave him in there with a nurse who didn't change him when he was wet so he was all upset and uncomfortable when Richard took Lou down to see to him, but I forced myself to turn round and take the few slow painful steps out of SCBU with the others.
Ah well! When Robbie was home from hospital, things progressed as if he hadn't been 3 weeks early, as if he hadn't been flat or his heart had stopped when he was born. He had his first temper tantrum at 10 days old, then he went quiet again for another 5 weeks or so until I went to College in Hereford and then funnily enough, he wasn't that gorgeous little man anymore, he became a very demanding little character, had to have attention 24 7, wouldn't go to sleep without a stomachful of Lou's breast milk Etc Etc, it drove Gran mad, but we all persevered with him and he matured in to the busy, happy, smiley, bubbly little bloke he is now with his da da da da da, blowing raspberries from dawn till dusk, spraying food everywhere, exploring and sometimes wrecking anything he can get his hands on, still having the tantrums if and when he doesn't get his own way, he's just sussed out standing up on his own this week besides crawling and cruising over furniture, toys and peoples feet, he goes to Gymbabes, which a parent and baby group for babies who aren't walking, then they advance up a level to Tumble Tots. Aw'w'w! There was this much younger baby there this week who wasn't even sitting up yet, she was lying on the floor, but unfortunately, well within Robbie's line of fire, lmfao. He crawled right over her then went back to her and started his usual pulling her around, exploring, messing with her Etc, till Lou thankfully distracted him, lmfao. We had little man's party yesterday and he got a Tombliboos ride on car (in the night garden on CBBS) and this tepee thing with three or four different play tunnels that can be connected to it and this other tent thing. This took up most of his playroom where were all gathered for his birthday celebrations. Anyway, Zone's going to log me off any minute now, so I'd better get this posted, lmfao.
Jen.
